Clybiau Plant Cymru Kids’ Clubs is leading this project and working directly with out of school childcare clubs and childminders in Carmarthenshire. Staff will recruit and train buddies from clubs and childminder settings and those trained buddies will then carry out activities with younger children. Baseline data on the children’s awareness of healthy eating and the importance of physical activities will be initially measured and will be re-visited on a termly basis. The aim is to raise awareness and make behavioural changes to enable them to make healthy lifestyle choices for the future. Data from the staff in these settings will also be collected to ascertain if this project has had an impact on their lifestyle.

Wales Pre-school Providers Association are a partner organisation for this project and will be working with their member pre-school groups piloting some of the activities that will be undertaken with children attending a childminder or an out of school childcare club. Clybiau Plant Cymru Kids’ Clubs will research which activities can be differentiated to the younger children and whether these have the same effect in changing children’s awareness and attitude towards a healthier lifestyle. Children, parents/carers and staff will all complete questionnaires on their current levels of activity and food choices and again, this will be measured on a termly basis.
